Ranchi, Jan 11: Jharkhand’s tableau is one of the 16 representations of states and union territories to be displayed at the Republic Day parade in New Delhi, which features the iconic Babadham Temple in Deoghar. The state will return to the big event after a seven-year absence.
The state’s plan for the procession is to represent the model of the temple. A statue of Birsa Munda would be placed in the front of the tableau. The state IPR department announced on Tuesday that the traditional dance “Paika” will be performed beside the tableau and that the Adivasi art form “Sohrai” would be displayed on the side panel.
By January 19, the chosen states and UTs must have their tableaus ready, and on January 23, they must take part in a rehearsal. Notably, Jharkhand has only four times shown their tableau at the R-Day procession.
Its tableau, which was inspired by ancient clay temples in Maluti in the Dumka area, won second place in 2015. The state displayed a tableau with a Dokra art theme in 2013. When it made its premiere at the R-Day parade in 2004, it featured Birsa Munda. In 2021, the state didn’t submit any proposals. Santhal Hul in 2022 was used as a model, but it was rejected.
Notably, in 2022, Jharkhand missed out on presenting its tableau for two consecutive years after it was rejected by the Centre. Moreover, In 2021, the state did not send any selection due to Covid-19.
Notably, Jharkhand shot into the national tableaux spotlight after the one depicting the terracotta Maluti temples of Dumka at the 2015 R-Day parade won second place.
Similarly, in 2013, the state showcased Dokra art. The state made its debut in 2004 with a tableau on Birsa Munda.
