Ranchi, Oct 6: Ashtam Oraon from Gumla has been appointed as the captain of the U-17 women’s football team which will take part in the FIFA World Cup 2022 to be held in India.

Moreover, a total of six women footballers from Jharkhand have been selected for the Indian team. They are Ashtam Oraon, Neetu Linda, Anjali Munda, Anita Kumari, Poornima Kumari and Sudha Ankita Tirkey.

Moreover, this is the first such instance where a Jharkhand player will lead the Indian team for the U-17 World Cup.

The president of the Jharkhand Football Association Mithilesh Kumar Thakur said, “It has been our dream that more than half the players in women’s football should be from Jharkhand. This dream is now coming true as six players from our state have been selected for the World Cup. It is a matter of pride and happiness for us.”

Notably, Ashtam Oraon has had a very humble beginning in her career. Coming from a poor background, her father said that he had somehow managed to provide education to her children and whatever Ashtam has achieved till now is due to her hard work.

Apart from Ashtam Oraon, the rest of the players of Jharkhand selected in the team are also from poor families. Jharkhand’s Sports Director Sarojini Lakra has said that they hope that the J daughters will win the World Cup for the country this time.

The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will start on October 11 and the final will be played on October 30.
