Ranchi, Dec 2: The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, in an endeavour to provide access to quality healthcare to tribal communities is organising a Mega Health Camp at Seraikela-Kharsawan, Jharkhand on December 4.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the ministry has made efforts to work towards “Better health for a better future.”

The Mega Health Camp will be held at the Kashi Shahu College (KSC), Seraikela-Kharsawan, the land of the legendary tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda. It will be a part of the wider programme ‘Abua Bugin Swasthya,’ which translates to ‘Our Better Health.’

The programme aims at providing free health check-ups and distributing free medical aids. It brings together the efforts of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, the National Health Mission, the Ministry of AYUSH, the Tata Steel Foundation and the District Administration.

Moreover, it will enable super-specialist doctors from institutions such as AIIMS, Maulana Azad Medical College, Apollo, Fortis etc. to visit the tribal hinterlands and test and diagnose different types of illnesses and address them suitably.

The efforts of TRIFED and NSTFDC will also be channelised to make the camp a success. The one-day Mega Health Camp is projected to serve 40,000 to 50,000 tribal people to match the success of the last health camp, which was conducted in Khunti District on June 26.

The focus of the latest Health Camp will be to address the Triple Burden of Diseases that cripple the health of our tribal communities, the first being communicable diseases such as TB, leprosy, HIV, hepatitis etc.

The second is non-communicable diseases such as Breast and Cervix Cancer, Sickle Cell disorder, cardiac diseases, skin illnesses, neuro diseases, and dental issues and the third, Malnutrition including Maternal Child Health Nutrition (MCHN+A) and Adolescent Health.

Screening facilities for these diseases and further courses of action to address them will be the focus of the health camp. Other facilities that the Mega Health camp will cater to are:

  • Distribution of free medicines, free artificial limbs and assistive devices and appliances distribution.
  • An eye camp will be organized including examination and distribution of free spectacles.
  • Geriatric care.
  • Blood tests etc.
  • Arrangements for easy access to Ayushman Bharat Golden Cards will be made.

For the Ayushman Bharat Golden Card, ST persons attending the Health Camp have been requested to bring their Aadhaar cards and Ration cards.

The Ayushman Bharat Card enables one to obtain free treatment up to Rs 5 lakhs per year in any government hospital or accredited private hospital. The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has primarily undertaken this Health Camp to dynamically improve the quality of life among the tribal communities through a special action plan.

It has been done keeping in mind the goal of health for all, especially the most vulnerable populations of our tribal communities. As a part of

the celebrations of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the health camp aims at providing good health to our tribal communities, leading to a step forward in ensuring a healthier and stronger India.
