Ranchi, Nov 10: As the Jharkhand State Election Commission intensified the preparation for civic body election and the declaration of the date is expected anytime, the sitting legislators and prominent leaders of the state have started planning to field their wives for the post of Mayors.
There are as many as 49 municipal bodies in Jharkhand. Out of these, the number of Municipal Corporations is 9 and the number of Nagar Parishad and Nagar Panchayat is 20-20. In each of the nine municipal corporations, there is 1 post of Mayor.
Information coming so far suggest that Sudha Gupta, wife of State Health Minister Banna Gupta, will try her luck for the post of Mayor of Mango Municipal Corporation.
Banna Gupta does not contradict it saying everyone has a right in a democracy and everyone should believe in it. He also says that he is busy as a minister, so it is the responsibility of his wife, their son and his colleagues to serve the people of Mango.
After this speculation, there is a discussion going on in the Jamshedpur Congress regarding whether all the posts will remain with the Gupta family.
Like Sudha, Zeba Khan, who is the wife of Congress leader Firoz Khan, is also gearing up to contest the election. Firoz Khan supports her saying that the public wants the mayor to be from the Mango area. Zeba Khan is currently the coordinator of the All India Unorganized Workers’ Employees Congress, Punjab. It is believed that with the entry of Zeba, now the tug of war between these two Congress candidates will intensify to get the support of the Congress party for the post of mayor.
In Dhanbad, Ashni Singh, the daughter-in-law of former Mayor Indu Devi, who is from Singh Mansion and Savitri Devi, wife of Baghmara MLA Dhulu Mahto, are in the fray. Dhulu Mahto has started preparing for it, although he is talking about waiting for the time in this regard.
Congress leader and brother of former minister KN Tripathi, who is in the post of Mayor, will contest for the post of Mayor of Medinagar Municipal Corporation.
Talking about Jhumri Tilaiya Municipal Council, Preeti Sahay will contest for the president post who is the wife of Manoj Sahay, grandson of former Bihar Chief Minister KB Sahay, who is also the District President of Congress. Preeti is also the secretary of Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Mahila Morcha and KB Sahay is also in-charge of Koderma Jankalyan Foundation.
Manoj Sahay says that he is absolutely sure of victory as he has the support and trust of the people. Along with this, they will definitely get the benefit of the agitation they have done against the holding tax in the past.
Former president of Jhumritilaiya Municipal Council, former Koderma district president of BJP and advocate Prakash Ram, his daughter-in-law Pooja Rawani will also be the candidate for the post of mayor.
Apart from this, Anupama Bhagat, president of Lohardaga Municipal Council and wife of former state president of Congress Sukhdev Bhagat, is also expected to be in the fray again.
