New Delhi, Nov 10: The November 11 performance of actor-comedian Vir Das in Bengaluru has been postponed due to protests from a Hindu organisation. After Hindu Janajagruthi Samiti (HJS), a right-wing organisation, voiced opposition, the show was cancelled.
In opposition to Das’ upcoming performance in Bengaluru, the right-wing organisation had reported him to the police on Monday, claiming that he insults Hinduism.
The Chowdiah Memorial Hall in Malleshwaram was designated as the venue for the performance.
The HJS had previously complained, asking that the stand-up comedian’s event be cancelled because it offended Hindus’ religious feelings and painted a poor picture of India. When Karnataka is already dealing with numerous law and order issues as a result of communal incidents, such events could vitiate law and order, the group claimed in its complaint.
“It is not right to allow such a controversial person to hold such a programme in a communally sensitive area like Bangalore,” it said.
A monologue that comedian Vir Das performed during a performance in the US caused uproar, with many people criticising him on social media for “insulting India.”
