Dhanbad, Feb 5: Badminton Association of India (BAI) has nominated badminton umpire of Jharkhand Avinash Kumar Tiwari as Ranchi technical official for Khelo India Youth Games ongoing at Gwalier in Madhya Pradesh.

The Jharkhand Badminton Association (JBA) general secretary K Prabhakar Rao while sharing this information said that BAI has nominated Avinash Kumar and he has already reached Gwalier for the Khelo India Youth Games. He would discharge his assignment as a technical official in the badminton event till January 11.

Ranchi’s Avinash Kumar, grade-2 national umpire of the BAI umpire panel, is a lone umpire from Jharkhand nominated as a technical officer in Khelo India Youth Games. He is the senior-most badminton umpire in the state and has the credit of officiating several state and national level championships. He is also the convener of Jharkhand badminton umpires.

National badminton coach of Jharkhand Sachin Rana, who is also the Joint secretary of Jharkhand Badminton Association, while appreciating the nomination of Avinash Kumar Tiwari as technical official in the national competition, said that it is a major achievement for Jharkhand badminton and recognition of badminton umpiring standard.

Rana has recently returned from New Delhi after discharging his responsibility in the India Open international tournament.

“I feel proud to represent Jharkhand in Khelo India Youth Games and credit goes to JBA general secretary (K Prabhakar Rao) who steered badminton umpires to reach such level,” said Avinash Kumar Tiwari.

K Prabhakar Rao is also joint secretary of Badminton Association of India and national chairman of Paralympic Badminton Association of India.
