Dhanbad, June 28: National body of the Indian Medical Association has selected Jharkhand’s physician, Dr Santwana Sharan, for the IMA Doctors’ Day Award 2022. Sharan is the lone doctor from the state to get this prestigious award this year.

IMA Jharkhand chapter President Dr AK Singh said that Union Minister of Health Mansukh Mandaviya will present the award to Dr Santwana Sharan at the award ceremony in New Delhi on the occasion of National Doctors’ Day on July 1.

National Doctors’ Day is celebrated in India on July 1 every year to commemorate the birth and death anniversary of Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, the celebrated physician of India.

In 22 years, Dr Sharan of Ramgarh district is the first doctor of Jharkhand who has been selected for this prestigious national award. She has been working hard for bailing out anaemic girls of rural pockets and launching awareness among adolescents over sanitization and menstrual problems.

Even during the Corona pandemic, Dr Sharan along with her team continued awareness campaigns among adolescents online and still organizes camps on regular basis to bail out the girls.

In their joint letter to Dr Santwan Sharan, IMA national president Dr Sahajanand Prasad Singh and secretary general Dr Jayesh M Lele have said, “On this occasion (National Doctors’ Day), IMA honours the doctors who have inspired us through their dedicated service to humanity in the medical field in a big way. We are pleased to inform you that it has been decided to honour you this year with an IMA Doctors’ Day Award– 2022 which shall be conferred upon you on the occasion of Doctors’ Day at a special ceremony being organized at IMA House, New Delhi.”

Jharkhand chapter IMA President Dr AK Singh and Secretary Dr Pradip Kumar Singh congratulated Dr Santwana Sharan for the prestigious national award and thanked the national body President Dr Sahajanand Prasad Singh and Secretary General Dr Jayesh M Lele for recognizing the contribution of Jharkhand’s doctor.
