Ranchi, July 18: The Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) announced the ICSE or class 10th result on Sunday, wherein three students including Jamshedpur’s Ved Raj, Sulagna Basack and Ranchi’s Surabhi Kumari were declared top three scorers.

Of these, Sulagna Basack, a student of Hill Top School in Jamshedpur, has secured the second position in the country by scoring 99.6 percent in ICSE. Sulagna said, “I aim to study further in IIT, but have no intention to be a part of a rat race. I intend to do biotechnology instead of computer engineering.”

The second national ICSE topper reasoned on her preference for biotechnology when she said, “Biotechnology is an upcoming area. This field has an important role in the treatment of various diseases including cancer. The world of nanotechnology is shaping out in a reality mold.”

Going by the promising biotechnology arena, efforts will be made to go in for new research through this stream, she further added.

Furthermore, when questioned about her strategy for exam preparation, she said, “Having short notes made it easy to check and understand. This also saves a lot of time. Another important aspect is time management during exam time. I was prepared with this strategy, because of which the result has been better than expected.”

Sulagna’s father, Partha Basack is an IT engineer and runs his own software business. Her mother is an architect. The family lives in Ghorabandha. Sulagna is the only child of her parents. School officials have stated, “Sulagna is very meritorious and is very serious about her studies. She is the recipient of the Principal’s Award this year.”  Presently, Sulagna is pursuing her engineering dreams at a coaching institute in Ranchi.

Sulagna said she obtained 99.8 percent marks based on English and the best four subjects she secured high marks in. She secured 100 marks out of 100 in Science, Social Science, Mathematics and Computer. Only two marks were deducted in English.

Meanwhile, Hindi, wherein Sulagna received 99 marks, was not included in the percentage of marks. Sulagna said that she had not expected such high percentage marks.  She said, “I had expected five marks less but at the end of the day, I am very happy with the result.”
