Srinagar, June 10: Attempts were made to stoke communal tensions in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baderwah and Kishtwar on Friday, while a curfew was enforced, citing suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Nupur Sharma’s comments against the Prophet Muhammad during a TV debate.
“Curfew remains imposed and mobile internet also remains snapped in Bhaderwah. Though there was tension in the town on Thursday, it has started subsiding and the situation remains under control,” said an official.
As a precaution, district commissioner AK Sharma claimed a curfew was imposed and mobile internet connections were shut down in the neighbouring Kishtwar district.
According to police, complaints have been filed for attempting to inflame tensions. Even though the situation in Ramban is under control, district commissioner Massrat-ul-Islam remarked that any gathering of more than four individuals is prohibited as a preventive measure.
