All four terrorists were killed and the body of one of the terrorists was recovered from the encounter site.

“There was a suspicious movement of a truck in the area. Police stopped the truck at the check post. As security forces started searching the truck, terrorists hiding inside fired at security forces. All the terrorists were killed in retaliatory fire,” said Mukesh Singh, Additional Director General of Police, Jammu.

However, the truck driver escaped and a search operation is ongoing to track him.

Soon after the encounter, the entire area was sealed off and traffic along the highway was stopped.

Earlier, a major terrorist attack was averted after the police defused a 15 kg improvised explosive device (IED) in Jammu and Kashmir`s Udhampur district.

The officials said that they have recovered a cylindrical shaped IED, 300-400 grams of RDX, seven 7.62 mm cartridges and five detonators in the Basantgarh area, averting a major terrorist plan.

Apart from this, police also recovered a coded sheet and letter pad page of the terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and detained a suspect.
