Ranchi, Feb 4: The JMM on Friday advised the BJP not to insist on the name of Babulal Marandi for the post of the Leader of the Opposition in the assembly and the BJP should elect any of its senior MLAs.
JMM spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya said this at a press conference while responding to a question. Marandi had merged his party, the JVM in the BJP right after the assembly election. But the merger was challenged and the matter is pending before the court of the Jharkhand assembly Speaker. The legislative body of the BJP elected him for the post of Leader of the Opposition in the assembly. But the assembly so far has not recognized him as leader of the opposition.
“We have great respect for Babulal Marandi. The BJP has 25 MLAs and it should elect any of the senior-most MLAs rather than Marandi,” Bhattacharya said.
As the budget session of the assembly is scheduled, the standoff between the treasury and the BJP-led opposition over this issue is set to continue.
Bhattacharya said the previous BJP-Ajsu Party government headed by Raghubar Das indulged in corrupt practices and made a record of scams.
“Scams are coming out like toffee scam, T-shirt scam, blanket scam. You name it and there is a scam. The BJP formed the government just for merrymaking and scam. But our government is committed to take action against the culprits,“ he said.
