Ranchi, Dec. 18: The convention of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) started at 10 am today at Sohrai  Bhawan in Harmu Housing Colony in the heart of the state capital.

Madan Mahto, who is organising secretary of the JMM at Barmasia in Dhanbad, said  over 1000 volunteers from different parts of the state have turned up to participate in the convention which will review three years’ performance of the party and chalk out strategy for the future development of the party which played an important role in formation of the state.

JMM chief and Rajya Sabha member Shibu Soren , Chief Minister and executive president of the party Hemant Soren besides state ministers from the party including Mithilesh Thakur, Hafiz ul Hassan Ansari,  senior legislator Lobin Hembrom besides others are participating in the convention. Sita Soren, however, was missing.

Former central secretary of the party Sheikh Badaruddin said the convention will decide new executive committee for the state and take several policy decisions.

He said that delegates have  come from Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha besides Jharkhand.

Pramod Lal, a party leader who was named in as many as 24 FIRs during the agitation for Jharkhand, said due to Covid-19 the programme has been cut short but no major issue will be ignored during the convention.

The convention venue was converted into a fortress and no one was allowed without identity cards. Delegates also faced problems. Vehicles were noticed parked haphazardly around the venue.
