Ranchi, June 2: Amidst allegations of making huge investments in shell companies against Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren and his close associates, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey today raised fingers over JMM’s Rajya Sabha candidate Mahua Maji’s disclosure in her affidavit of getting an unsecured loan of Rs 30 lakh from one S M Mining.
Dubey shared a tweet accusing Mahua of taking a loan without any paper. He tweeted, “In Jharkhand, it seems that I will go mad, Mahua ji, the newest Rajya Sabha member of JMM party, was given a loan of 30 lakh rupees by an SM mining company without any paper? Jharkhand is the only state in India where money grows on trees?
Mahua, when contacted, said that the company belongs to her two sons and there is nothing wrong with taking a loan from a son’s company. It is allowed under the Government of India rule, she added.
Unsecured loans don’t require the borrower to put down any security deposit or collateral. Instead, borrowers are approved by lenders based on personal credit history and income.
Mahua is supposed to be close to Hemant Soren’s family and happens to be the president of the JMM Mahila Morcha.
She further said that she had disclosed this information in the affidavit filed during the 2019 Assembly elections too. She had fought the Assembly elections on the JMM ticket from Ranchi.
Mahua, better known as a writer, said that SM Mining is a partnership firm and had been registered “with competent authorities” and under the “government act” four-five years back. Its account has been audited every year, she added. But she could not explain the ‘acts and authority where the said company is registered. She also said that it is a partnership firm registered where her two sons are partners and not directors.
However, all efforts to trace the company on the website turned out futile. Incidentally, the internet searches revealed her sons-Soumvit and Showmik-as directors of several other companies, but not S M Mining.
Asked about the mining works having been undertaken by the company in the last four years, she said “kuchh khash nahi hai. 10-20 lakh ka hi turnover hai.” She could not explain how a company with Rs 10-20 lakh turnover could give an unsecured loan of Rs 30 lakh.
The JMM candidate said that the company is registered at her home address at Tharpakna in Ranchi. She said that her family has been in the mining business for quite a long time in Jharkhand.
