Jamshedpur, May 19: The Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has resumed its crackdown on builders who are going ahead with projects that deviate from or blatantly violate approved plans.
The civic outfit is not only sealing such rogue residential and commercial premises but also stopping construction at sites where violations have been reported.
On Thursday, the JNAC suspended the construction of a multi-storey building at New Baradwari because the developer didn’t meet the setback (the distance of a building from a road, river or any other place that needs protection) criterion.
On Wednesday, the JNAC had sealed two under-construction buildings in Sonari.
Both the buildings had two approved floors, but the builders violated building norms and constructed four floors. The flying squad of the civic body detected the violations.
Sources said the JNAC had identified more buildings in its jurisdiction and that necessary action against those illegal buildings would be taken soon.
The civic body would disconnect electricity and water supply in the sealed buildings.
Sources said the civic body has also served a notice to a couple of building owners in Sakchi and Baradwari for allowing commercial centres restaurant in the basement.
“We have asked the builders to close down commercial centres as basements are meant only for parking. If the builders ignore the notice, we will seal the basement,” a city manager of JNAC said.
According to him, the drive against such rogue builders would continue not only in JNAC but in areas which fall under other civic bodies.
