JSLPS, CIP organise two-day training for women branded as witches

Ranchi, Feb 8: The Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS) in collaboration with Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP) organised a two-day residential training for women that have suffered because of being branded as witches, under Garima Project. The training was inaugurated by Nancy Sahay, Chief Executive Officer of JSLPS and Dr. Basudeb, Director of CIP.

A total of 53 women suffering due to being identified as witches from Bokaro, Gumla, Khunti, Latehar, Lohardaga, Simdega and West Singhbhum participated under the Garima Project in the training. In this session, the aggrieved women narrated their ordeals and shared how they are starting their new life innings through the Project. The main objective of this session was to help the victims forget the past and maintain mental wellbeing. After this, they will be linked with a livelihood, through which they will be able to earn and take care of themselves.

Along with this a presentation was given by the CIP team to the participants on Psychological First Aid in during the session wherein, with the help of focused group discussion and questionnaire, psychological and social problems of women were identified and they made aware of the importance of a good mental health. The victims that were involved in the training said, “In this two-day training, we are going to learn how to leave this unhappy life and move towards a happy, peaceful life”.

Nancy Sahay, while addressing the women answered their queries and said, ‘Under the Garima Project, the beneficiaries are given their basic rights and the team here makes efforts to connect the victims with their families to help them lead a dignified life’.
