New Delhi, June 19: The Indian government granted e-visas to over 100 Sikhs and Hindus in Afghanistan on Sunday, a day after the tragic Sikh temple attack in Kabul, according to official sources quoted by news agency ANI.
Unidentified terrorists stormed a Gurudwara in Kabul, Afghanistan, on Saturday, killing at least two civilians, including a Sikh man and a Muslim security guard.
The Sikh temple was blown apart by bombs and gunfire. However, no one has claimed responsibility for the incident yet. According to Abdul Nafi Takor, a Taliban-appointed spokesperson for the Interior Ministry, gunmen stormed a Sikh temple of worship, known as a gurdwara, in Kabul, sparking a gunfight between the attackers and Taliban militants.
Security authorities were able to halt the terrorists before they could blow a car bomb, according to him. The police operation finished after the last attacker was slain several hours later, according to Khalid Zadran, a spokesman for the Kabul police chief. He did not specify the number of assailants.
According to Zadran, one Sikh was killed in the attack, while seven others were injured, and a member of the Taliban security forces was slain during the rescue attempt.
The IS affiliate, which has been active in Afghanistan since 2014, is viewed as the country’s Taliban rulers’ greatest security threat.
Since seizing power in Kabul and elsewhere in the country last August, the Taliban have launched a sweeping crackdown against the IS in eastern Afghanistan.
In March 2020, a lone Islamic State gunman rampaged through a Sikh temple in Kabul, killing 25 worshippers, including a child, and wounding eight others. As many as 80 worshippers were trapped inside the gurdwara as the gunman lobbed grenades and fired an automatic rifle into the crowd.
