New Delhi, Jan 13: The investigation into the Kanjhawala death case’s careless police officers would begin on Friday, according to the Delhi Police.

The case relates to the horrific incident that happened on January 1 in Outer Delhi’s Khanjawala neighbourhood when 20-year-old Anjali Singh, who was riding a scooter, was discovered dead on the street after allegedly being hit and dragged for a distance of several kilometres by a car driven by five youths.

According to authorities, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Thursday recommended suspending police officers who had been stationed in three PCR vans and at two police pickets after receiving a thorough report on the case from the Delhi Police.

These police officers were on duty when the incident occurred.

Additionally, the MHA advised Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora to discipline these officers who were stationed in the two police pickets and the three Police Control Room (PCR) patrolling vans of the Delhi Police.

According to the officials involved in the probe, the MHA also recommended that the Delhi Police Commissioner issue a show cause notice against the supervisory officers in the case due to their possible neglect of duty.

The Ministry advised the Delhi Police to take immediate action to charge the offenders in court and to take all other required measures to ensure that they receive just punishment.

After receiving a thorough report from the Delhi Police regarding the event that happened on New Year’s morning in the Kanjhawla neighbourhood in outer Delhi, the MHA made its proposal.

Shalini Singh, the Special Commissioner of Police, was charged with compiling the report after conducting a thorough investigation after Union Home Minister Amit Shah had earlier instructed his ministry to request a comprehensive report from the Delhi Police regarding the occurrence.

The MHA then issued a letter to the Delhi Police Commissioner, requesting a thorough report on the occurrence, after receiving instructions from the Union Home Minister.

The directive was given hours after Delhi Police detained five males in relation to the killing of the 20-year-old woman.
