Ujjain, June 11: DK Shivakumar, the deputy chief minister of Karnataka, offered prayers at the Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain on Sunday.

The deputy chief minister of Karnataka and his son took part in the legendary “Bhasma Aarti” (offering with ashes), which is performed out between 4:00 and 5:30 am during the “Brahma Muhurta.”

“Has come to seek blessings of Mahakaleshwar. Mahakaleshwar has given us a government to serve the people of Karnataka. I had come here before the election as well…Today we are launching a great programme, free buses for all the women of Karnataka. We are going to implement all our five promises,” Shivakumar said after performing the Bhasma Aarti.

During the Bhasma Aarti, Shivakumar was also observed reciting a Rudraksha rosary at the temple’s ‘Nandihal’.

Shivakumar performed “Baba Mahakal’s Jalabhishek” in the sanctum sanctorum after the Bhasma Aarti.

Mahesh Parmar and Jeetu Patwari, both MLAs of the Congress, were also present.

As part of his two-day visit to the state, Shivakumar arrived in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday afternoon. After Congress won a commanding majority in the most recent Karnataka assembly elections, his journey to the temple is being interpreted as a pilgrimage of thankfulness.

“Let us only discuss issues of development and not emotions (Tipu Sultan issue). We have said that if any organisation will try to disturb the peace of Karnataka, we will look into them. No moral policing will be allowed,” when questioned about a current dispute in Karnataka over the 18th-century Mysore king Tipu Sultan, Shivakumar stated yesterday.

Shivakumar also prayed at the well-known Peetambra Peeth, a collection of Hindu temples in the Datia area of Madhya Pradesh on Saturday.

While addressing to the media, Shivakumar had said, “All my party cadres are telling me that a lot of cases have been filed against party workers. This is unfair. I just told them to be bold enough and face this time. We will bounce back under the former Chief Minister of MP Kamal Nath and all of us are working unitedly and we will bring change in the future of Madhya Pradesh politics.”
