Bengaluru, March 20: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai announced that the state government will provide Y-category protection to three judges of the Karnataka High Court, including Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi, who recently upheld the prohibition on hijab in the state’s educational institutions.
“We’ve decided to give ‘Y’ category security to all three judges who gave the Hijab verdict. I have instructed DG and IG to probe the complaint filed in Vidhanasoudha PS thoroughly in which some people gave life threats to the judges,”said Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai in Bengalur.
On Saturday, attorney Umapathi S filed a complaint with the registrar general of the Karnataka High Court, alleging that he received a video message on WhatsApp in which a person mentions the purported murder of a judge in Jharkhand while out strolling during a public assembly.
Notably, the state government’s decision to outlaw the hijab inside classrooms was recently upheld by the high court, claiming that it was not an essential practise in Islam.
