Bengaluru, Dec 26: Fearing an increase in Omicron cases, the Karnataka state government has decided to reinstate a night curfew beginning Tuesday, Health Minister K Sudhakar said on Sunday.

On December 28, a curfew will be imposed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. every night for ten days.

“From December 28 onwards, for about ten days to begin with, we would like to watch by calling a night curfew, invoking Section 144, from night 10 PM to the next morning 5 AM,” said Sudhakar.

Vaccination will start for kids from 15 to 18 years of age in the state from 3 January. A total of 43 lakh kids will be given vaccination. Section 144 will be imposed in the state from 28th Dec for ten days from 10PM to 6AM: Karnataka Health Minister Dr Sudhakar K pic.twitter.com/4ausXIXbII

The decision was made at a meeting presided over by chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday. Ministers and technical experts attended the high-level meeting to assess the Covid-19 situation and decide on containment measures to address the state’s rise in Omicron infection cases.

Following the meeting, Dr. Sudhakar announced that the government has decided to reinstate the night curfew. The night curfew is likely to dampen New Year’s celebrations, which are already limited by the state government.

Notably, Karnataka on Saturday reported seven new cases of Omicron variant, taking the state tally to 38.
