Ramanagara, May 17: Security was increased in Ramanagara on Wednesday, the district where Karnataka Congress President D K Shivakumar is from, as a preventative measure after some media outlets reported that he had lost the race for the position of Chief Minister to Siddaramaiah.
The decision over the next Chief Minister has been the subject of great speculation, with the Congress predicting that a decision will be made later today or on Thursday and that the state’s new cabinet will be in place within the next 48 to 72 hours.
In order to stop any untoward incidents, police officers have been stationed at key public locations and the district Congress office in Ramanagara, according to official sources.
Particularly in Kanakapura, where Shivakumar is from and was re-elected to the Karnataka Assembly in the May 10 elections, the police presence was increased.
The Congress won 135 seats in the recently-completed election, while the BJP only managed to secure 66 seats and the JD(S) only managed to secure 19.
