Daltonganj, Oct 8: A 34-year-old CRPF jawan on Sentry duty at the Banskarcha CRPF camp under the Mahuadanr police station in Latehar district succumbed to gunshot injuries on Saturday that he got himself and not inflicted by others, as per sources.
The deceased jawan was identified as Mehrajuddin Mapno of Kashmir of 218 Battalion who was deputed for anti-naxal operations.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Mahuadanr, Rajesh Kujur, while talking to lagatar24.com said, “The CRPF jawan was on his morning Sentry duty today at the Banskarcha CRPF camp. It was his 8-10 am duty. Around 9 am, he was found in a pool of blood and on the ground after the CRPF jawans and officers of the battalion heard the sound of firing from that front.”
The CRPF jawan died while undergoing treatment at the community health centre at Mahuadanr.
The SDPO said that the jawan was rushed to the community health centre at Mahuadanr. The medical officer in charge of the Mahuadnr community health centre Dr Amit Khalkho said, “The jawan was brought to us at the centre in a very precarious health condition. He had a firearm injury on his left chest. There were holes in the entry and exit of the bullet in his left chest.”
“We tried hard to revive him but in vain. We first tried to pack up his bleeding. He was put on oxygen. He battled for life for half an hour after he was rushed to this community health centre before he breathed his last,” added Khalkho.
Local police and CRPF are probing the circumstances behind this tragic incident. No official version of the 218 Bn CRPF in this regard has been released yet.
So far the reason behind the firing has not been ascertained.
“We have yet to ascertain whether it is a case of accidental firing or a suicide,” Latehar Superintendent of Police Anjani Anjan said.
A jawan who was on duty told that in the morning the Mopano had breakfast as usual and everything was fine. “What went wrong with him is difficult to say,” he said.
