Srinagar, Sept 11: Ghulam Nabi Azad, a former leader of the Congress who is about to start his own political party, stated on Sunday that Article 370 of the constitution, which gave Jammu and Kashmir more autonomy and was repealed two years ago by the BJP government at the centre, cannot be reinstated.
Azad accused regional parties of “misleading people” by vowing to campaign for the restoration of Article 370 in his first public gathering in Baramulla, North Kashmir.
“Ghulam Nabi Azad will not mislead anyone. For votes, I will not mislead and exploit you. Please don’t rake up issues which can’t be achieved. 370 can’t be restored. It needs a two-thirds majority in parliament,” he said.
He claimed that every election saw the Congress “falling down” and that no party in India could win a majority in the legislature and reinstate Article 370.
In order to “combat politics of exploitation and deception,” the former Congress leader declared that he will establish his party in Jammu and Kashmir within the next 10 days.
“The politics of exploitation has led to the killing of one lakh people in Kashmir. It has orphaned five lakh children and caused massive distraction,” he said.
