Puthupally, Sept 8: The Congress party on Friday overwhelmingly won the Puthuppally seat in Kerala. Chandy Oommen, a leader Congress leader and the son of former Kerala Chief Minister Oomen Chandy, successfully defended his father’s Puthuppally seat by defeating Jaick C. Thomas of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).

By almost 37000 votes, Chandy Ommen triumphed in Puthuppally.

In extending his congratulations for this win, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal stated on Friday that the people of Puthuppally have delivered a judgment against the Chief Minister’s arrogance.

“The victory in Puthupally is the victory of Congress unity,” KC Venugopal said, adding, that “Pudupally is the people’s verdict against the Chief Minister’s arrogance”.

He additionally asserted that Congress nominee Chandy Oommen garnered backing and votes from the CPM.

“The siren of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections has already been sounded. This is the sentiment against the government,” said KC Venugopal.

In the meantime, Chandy’s triumph was also met with a response from Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala, who stated that Chandy’s stunning victory in the Puthuppally by-elections sent a clear signal to the Centre and the state government that they had thrown out both parties.

“The spectacular victory in the Puthuppally bye-elections is a clear message to the Modi and Pinarayi Vijayan governments. Both the BJP and CPM have been thrown out by the people of Puthuppally. No by-election in Kerala has had such a landslide margin. The message is very clear,” he said.
