New Delhi: The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf Amendment Bill has scheduled a crucial meeting on December 26 and 27 to record oral evidence from state representatives. The committee will gather suggestions from representatives of Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan on December 26.

The term of the committee, which was formed to review the Waqf Amendment Bill, has been extended until the last day of the Budget Session 2025, with the Lok Sabha granting approval for the extension.

Discussions Scheduled with Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, and Delhi Representatives

On December 27, the committee will engage with representatives from Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, and Delhi to discuss the proposed amendments to the Waqf Act.

Committee chairman Jagdambika Pal shared that last Thursday, the committee interacted with Muslim representatives from Lucknow and Rajasthan. Among them were Professor Mahrookh Mirza, former Vice-Chancellor of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Language University, Lucknow, and Syed Abu Bakar Naqvi, former chairman of the Rajasthan Waqf Board, who presented their proposed amendments.

Earlier, on Wednesday, the JPC held a meeting with members of the All India Shia Personal Law Board to gather their views.
