New Delhi, Jan 31: Due to flight delays, Congress MPs, including Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, are stranded in Srinagar. As a result, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi will attend the President’s speech at a joint session of both Houses of Parliament today. During President Droupadi Murmu’s first speech to the joint session of both Houses of Parliament, sources claim the CPP chairperson will speak on behalf of the Congress party.

According to party leader Jairam Ramesh, a number of Congress MPs, including Kharge, won’t be able to attend the President’s address since flights from Srinagar were delayed owing to bad weather. For the Bharat Jodo Yatra’s last events on Monday, the Congress leaders and MPs are in Srinagar.

They were unable to attend the meeting of different political parties that the government called on Monday before the Parliamentary budget session. Since all flights from Srinagar were cancelled owing to the significant snowfall, senior party MP Naseer Hussain was supposed to attend the meeting but was unable to do so.

Hussain, the CPP Whip in the Rajya Sabha, stated that Kharge, Adhir Ranjan Chowdary, the leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, and several other Congress MPs are stranded at the Srinagar airport owing to weather conditions and may not be able to attend the President’s address at 11 am.
