Ranchi, Aug 19: A 10-yr-old was raped at her cottage in Hohanda, about 45km from the district headquarters under the Arki police station area of Khunti district.
The incident, which took place yesterday in the afternoon, came into the knowledge of the police late evening and spread like wildfire today as villagers and police swung into action to identify the culprit and ensure proper punishment for him.
SP of the district Aman Kumar confirmed the incident saying so far an FIR has been registered on the statement of the girl’s parents. The FIR, he said, is against an unknown person and an attempt is on to identify the rapist.
Asked about the condition of the victim, he said ‘she is alright.’ Asked about the statement, SP Kumar said it is ‘yet to be taken’. Asked why late, he said: “Doctors have not allowed taking her statement instantly and the girl is being counselled to overcome the traumatic experience.”
A local resident said the girl fell prey to the rapist when her parents had gone outside the cottage to an agricultural field for farming work. “When she cried after being raped, villagers came to know about the incident and came for her rescue,” a locality resident said.
