Kolkata, June 25: Three people were taken into custody by STF Kolkata Police on Saturday after they uncovered an illegal SIM box network racket that was operating across four locations in Kolkata, according to STF Kolkata police.

The Kolkata Police STF team broke a significant Simbox network that was operating across four locations in Kolkata that were under the jurisdiction of the Karaya, Tala, Purba Jadavpur and Ekbalpur Police Stations (PS), an STF officer said.

“29 SIM boxes, 604 SIM cards of BSNL and Airtel and multiple routers were recovered from the accused. Karaya PS: 07 Simboxes, Tala PS: 14 Simboxes, Purba Jadavpur PS: 03 Simboxes, Ekbalpur: 5 Simboxes,” said the Police.

The official stated that Goutam Saha, Golum Moinuddin Warsi and Md. Muzaffar Hossain had been named as the accused.

These devices were being used to divert international calls illegally, which costs the government revenue and poses significant security risks that may be used by anti-nationals, an STF officer claimed.

More probe is being done.
