Ranchi, July 18: Many trained phlebotomy personnel of private testing labs are often seen collecting blood samples from the general ward of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), informed one of the attendants in the hospital.

Director of RIMS Dr Kameshwar Prasad also explained this problem while talking to the media. He said that he is aware of the issue that has been carried out in the hospital and has given strict instructions to the officials that any random person should not be allowed inside the ward.

“The biggest question that arrives is how can a random person who is not an attendant or related to a patient enter the ward in the hospital. It is quite clear that there is a problem in the security department. We have already suspended some security guards with regard to this matter and have given strict warning to others,” the director informed.

Nilesh Singh, one of the attendants whose father is suffering from jaundice informed that in the general ward he has seen many blood sample collection guys approaching attendants to allow them to collect blood and guaranteeing to give the reports within a few hours.

“The lab at RIMS takes two to three days to give the report so why not give it to a private lab when they can give the report in a few hours ?” Singh said.

The Director has also said that there is no need for patients to give blood to any other testing labs unless it is advised by the doctor itself.

“The central testing lab at RIMS has been functional all along and we test around 1400-1500 samples per day. We would like to request patients to kindly not entertain any such people who belong to other private labs and request for blood collection in the ward,” the director said.
