Daltonganj, July 27: The 2017 batch Jharkhand cadre IPS officer, Reeshma Ramesan, today took over charge of the Superintendent of Police (SP) Palamu from the outgoing SP  Chandan Kumar Sinha.

Reeshma Ramesan is the first lady SP of Palamu as more than century-old Palamu never saw any woman being the top cop of the district police.

Reeshma Ramesan is the wife of Latehar SP Anjani Anjan. She is from Kerala but she speaks Hindi with comfortable accuracy and ease.

She performs Chhath as last year she observed this Maha Lok Parv along with her husband Anjani Anjan in Latehar.

She took a barrage of questions from the newsmen shortly after joining here as SP and she answered the questions most precisely and professionally.

A journalist (not Lagatar24.com) asked her if she would be taking extra pains or miles for women here as she is right now on the hot seat, Reeshma Ramesan gave an equally cool answer when she said, “There is no gender issue. Gender never matters to us. A visitor to SP is a visitor. His or her gender does not count.”

She did not stop here when she said, “When one becomes an  IPS officer and there a person’s merit is seen and not that which gender he or she is. SP is for the person of the society.”

The outgoing SP, Chandan Kumar Sinha, taking a potshot at the questioner said, pointing towards Reeshma Ramesan “You have taken the wind out of the sail of the fellow.”

Reeshma Ramesan said, “I am here now as captain of the ship of the Palamu police. Let girls note that they too can achieve this honour by doing hard labour.”

The new SP appealed to the people of Palamu to maintain communal amity and harmony without any distrust,  mistrust and rancour. She in a tone firm but polite said, “There is no space for rumour. No one should do this inane kind of rumour-mongering.”

On messages coming on to social media at times like this, she said, “One has to be on one’s own guard. Let there be no unverified and unconfirmed messages at all or its forwarding. Everyone is most expected to act prudently.”

Reeshma Ramesan said, “My effort as SP will be to bring the police closer to the public and vice versa, as after all to whom police are, surely it is for the public ultimately.”

About challenges here, she said, “Today is my first day in office. Let me have my 2 months here  only then I will be in a position to tell you what the challenges are.”

On the issue of cyber crimes, she said, “The cyber crime is a statewide phenomenon. It’s almost in every district. It will be dealt with adequately.”

The outgoing SP Sinha reminded her that people here do not mind vexing SP with a myriad of their problems.

Reeshma Ramesan on this commented that she has been told that there are smart guys here who enlighten the police to use which section of the IPC and which sections of the IPC to be dropped in police diary. This is simply an infringement of the freedom of action of the police.”

Here the Assistant Superintendent of Police and SDPO Rishabha Garg, IPS, remarked that there are people here who believe they have a right to influence investigating or supervising police officers to act the way they like but police here show them the mirror.
