Dhanbad, Oct 14: Authorities of the five-year-old Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) Dhanbad have thrown all the established norms of higher education to the wind by getting the postgraduate (PG) examinees’ answer books evaluated by undergraduate (UG) teachers of the affiliated colleges.
As per the information, the answer books of BBMKU PG examinees were evaluated by teachers at around 11 affiliated colleges including Barkagaon, Chatra and Barhi.
Official sources in Vinoba Bhave University (VBU) Hazaribagh, under which all trio colleges fall, confirmed that PG courses are not taught in this institution.
A retired senior professor of BBMKU said that as per the norms, PG answer books could only be evaluated at the institutions where PG courses are taught. “A teacher who does not teach a PG subject, how would he/she evaluate the answer books,” he said.
An official of the university said that teachers of UG affiliated colleges have been evaluating the PG answer books of BBMKU Dhanbad for the last six months.
“All teachers of the college are not entitled to evaluate the PG answer books. At least experience of five years teaching in PG is mandatory to evaluate the answer books. Since PG courses are not being taught in these affiliated colleges and teachers of these institutions (Chatra, Barhi and Barkagao) don’t have five years’ experience, getting answer books evaluated by them is a violation of the university norms,” said a retired professor of BBMKU.
Another retired professor of VBU, who also served at different posts in BBMKU, said that during his 40 years of the college as well as university services, he had not seen the UG teachers of affiliated colleges evaluating the answer books of PG examinees in any university of Bihar, Jharkhand as well as across the country.
Another retired professor of BBMKU said that it should be probed on whose order answer books of the PG department were sent to the affiliated college for evaluation. “It was an illegal decision which has degraded the dignity of BBMKU,” said the retired teacher.
When tried to contact him for his comments on allegations of senior professors of the university, BBMKU examination controller SK Baranwal did not receive lagatar24.com‘s calls.
PG answer books evaluation bills lead to the sacking of Finance Officer?
A retired teacher alleged that the BBMKU examination department has become famous for all the wrong reasons. Illegal evaluation of PG answer books by UG teachers of affiliated colleges became a bone of contention between the new vice-chancellor and the first finance officer (FO) of the university.
Finally, FO BN Singh had to face removal from the post in just six months as he held up the examination department’s bills for the PG answer book evaluation.
