New Delhi, Dec 6: Ashish Misra, son of Union Minister Ajay Misra, and 13 other people were charged by a Lakhimpur Kheri court on Tuesday in relation to the unrest in October 2021 that resulted in the deaths of four farmers.
All 13 defendants, including Ashish Misra, were charged with various offences in the court of Additional District Judge Sushil Srivastava, including murder and attempted murder. The matter will now go to trial.
The primary defendant in the case is Ashish Misra, also known as “Monu,” who is the son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Kumar Misra.
The Indian Penal Code Sections 302, 307, 326, and 147 have been used to charge the defendant.
“Today charges have been framed against Ashish Mishra (son of Union Minister Ajay Mishra) & 13 others. The 14th accused Virendra Shukla has been charged under section 201. Trial in the case will begin on Dec 16,” said District govt counsel Arvind Tripathi.
Eight people were killed on October 3, 2021, in Tikunia, Lakhimpur Kheri, after violence broke out as farmers demonstrated against the visit of Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Keshav Prasad Maurya.
According to the Uttar Pradesh Police FIR, Ashish Misra was driving an SUV that mowed down four farmers. After the incident, the driver and two BJP employees are said to have been lynched by enraged farmers.
