Two advocates on Tuesday have written a letter to the Supreme Court demanding that investigation of the Lakhimpur Incident should be conducted in a time-bound manner under the supervision of the court.
The letter sent by the Advocates Shiv Kumar Tripathi and CS Panda sought direction from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Police to register an FIR and punish the ministers involved in the incident of October 3. The letter also sought setting up a high–level judicial inquiry under the supervision of the Supreme Court involving CBI in stipulated time. They also asked the court to treat the letter as a PIL.
On the other side, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday demanded a probe monitored under a sitting judge into the Lakhimpur Kheri incident. The SP leader who was detained for violating prohibitory orders and kept in police custody before he was released later said that what the police did in Lakhimpur was worse than what Britishers did to protestors during their rule. He also demanded the resignation of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra Teni.
Also said that the people of the state were disappointed with the BJP government and will give them a befitting response in the upcoming assembly elections. “We are again getting an opportunity to hold rath Yatra and this time, it is a ‘Vijay Yatra’ of Samajwadi Party. As people of Uttar Pradesh are disappointed with the BJP government.”
