New Delhi, March 16: The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued a notice to Uttar Pradesh Government, asking them to file reply on plea seeking cancellation of bail of Lakhimpur Kheri violence accused Ashish Mishra, who is the son of MoS MHA Ajay Mishra Teni.

The apex court also directs to protect the witnesses in the case.

Notably, the Supreme Court is hearing on Wednesday the plea seeking cancellation of bail of Ashish Mishra. Advocate Prashant Bhushan, arguing for some of the victims’ family members, informed a bench presided over by Chief Justice of India N V Ramana that one of the case’s key witnesses had been assaulted after Mishra was freed on bail.

The next hearing is scheduled for March 24.

Notably, Ashish Mishra is the main suspect in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case. On October 3, violence occurred in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri, killing eight people, including four farmers. The incident occurred during a farmers’ demonstration before Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya’s visit to Lakhimpur. A car driven by Ashish Mishra allegedly ploughed over the protesting farmers, killing four of them. Four more persons were killed in the ensuing fighting.

On February 10, the Allahabad High Court’s Lucknow bench had granted him bail.
