The government has announced a compensation of Rs 45 lakh to the families of four farmers who died in Lakhimpur Kheri on October 3, additional director general law and order Prashant Kumar said on October 4. One member of the family of the deceased will be given a government job. Along with this, a judicial inquiry into the incident and a promise to arrest the accused in 8 days has also been given. This inquiry will be done by a retired judge of the High Court. A compensation of Rs 10 lakh has also been announced for those injured in the violence.
Notably, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav was detained by the police from outside his residence in Lucknow on Monday where he staged a sit-in after being stopped from visiting the Lakhimpur Kheri district, where eight including four farmers were killed on Sunday.
This comes after Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was detained early on Sunday by the Uttar Pradesh police as she headed to meet the families of the farmers who died yesterday in the violence. Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi has been kept in the guest house of Sitapur where she protested by sweeping the guest house room. This video of her is going viral.
