New Delhi, Jan 27: Lakshya Sen’s outstanding performance in the Indonesia Masters Super 500 badminton competition came to an end on Friday in Jakarta when he was defeated by Asian Games winner Jonatan Christie in the quarterfinals.

Sen, who is rated 12 in the world, blew a first-game lead and lost to home favourite Christie, who is ranked 3, in a men’s singles match that lasted 62 minutes. Sen, the Commonwealth Games winner who entered the game with a perfect head-to-head record of 1-0, displayed his skill as he quickly built an 8-5 lead and kept it into halftime.

After the restart, Christie erased the three-point deficit and tied the score at 15 before the Indian scored six points in a row to win the first game.

Sen lost control of the match after the switch of sides as Christie played very differently and quickly jumped to 11-2 before tying the score. In the decisive game, Christie got off to a fast 5-1 lead. Sen scored four points in a row, but he still had a lot of work to do.

The Indonesian made sure there wasn’t a glitch by advancing to an 11-6 lead and keeping a good distance from his opponent before securing the victory with a four-point surge. Sen advanced to the second round of the India Open the previous week.
