New Delhi: RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav has launched a scathing attack on Union Home Minister Amit Shah, demanding his resignation over controversial remarks on Dr. BR Ambedkar. The remarks, made during a Constitution debate in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, have sparked widespread political backlash.

“Amit Shah has gone mad. He must have hatred for Babasaheb Ambedkar. We condemn this madness of his. Babasaheb Ambedkar is great. He should renounce politics and leave,” Lalu Yadav told ANI on Thursday.

Opposition Outrage Intensifies

The controversy began when Amit Shah, responding to the Constitution debate, criticized the Congress for frequently invoking Ambedkar’s name. Shah said, “It has become a fashion to say Ambedkar repeatedly. If they had taken God’s name so often, they would have reached heaven in seven lifetimes.”

The statement provoked outrage from opposition leaders, who accused Shah of disrespecting the Dalit icon. Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav labeled Shah and the BJP as “anti-constitution” and accused them of spreading hatred.

“Babasaheb Ambedkar is our fashion and passion. He is also our motivation and inspiration. We will not let anyone insult him. These people are anti-constitution who spread hatred,” Tejashwi Yadav remarked.

Congress Demands Apology and Resignation

Congress MP Manickam Tagore moved an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha, demanding Amit Shah’s resignation and a public apology. “He insulted Babasaheb Ambedkar inside Parliament. Therefore, we have moved an adjournment motion for his apology as well as resignation from the cabinet,” Tagore stated.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge joined the protests, asserting that Shah’s remarks undermined Ambedkar’s legacy. Congress leaders, accompanied by opposition members, demonstrated in Parliament premises, holding photographs of Ambedkar to express their dissent.

BJP Defends Shah Amid Political Firestorm

The BJP has dismissed the accusations, stating that Shah’s remarks were taken out of context. The ruling party accused the Congress of misrepresenting the statement for political gain.
