Jamshedpur, Dec 11: A landmine weighing 15 Kg was recovered from Saranda forest in neighbouring West Singhbhum on Saturday.
Sources said the landmine which was planted by CPI- Maoist rebels was supposed to target paramilitary forces and police.
Timely detection of the landmine prevented any casualties.
According to West Singhbhum police, the landmine was planted at an unmetalled rural road close to the Odisha border.
” The landmine consisting of an improvised explosive device (IED) was detected by jawans of a CRPF battallion and police during a search operation. The landmine was diffused deep inside the jungle by a bomb disposal squad, ” said a senior official of West Singhbhum police adding that long-range patrolling was intensified in the area.
Intelligence sources revealed that a CPI- Maoist squad was active in Saranda forest. Acting on a tip-off search operation was being carried out in the forest range close to Odisha border.
