Ranchi, July 13: “I want to become a doctor. My father could not become a doctor. Now he is with God, and I have to fulfil his dream,” said 12-year-old Srishti Shahi, who is studying in the fourth standard. Her father Jaipal Kishorenath Shahi was a Registered Medical Practitioner (RMP) in Chakla village before he succumbed to a cardiac arrest in August 2021.
Such dreams are blossoming in the eyes of children of Chakla village, some 15 km from Chandwa in the Latehar district of Jharkhand thanks to the small coaching centre set up by Hindalco Industries under its Udaan scheme, as part of its CSR. Hindalco has been allotted Chakla Coal Mines in the Latehar district and Udaan is operated under Chakla’s community development objective.
The company operates two coaching centres at Chakla and one at Navatoli where a free coaching facility is provided to children from Class I to Class V. A total of 123 children are studying in these three coaching centres. Free copy, pen, pencil and other items are given by the company. The company has selected some meritorious youth of Chakla as teachers.
Pawan Kumar Ram, a teacher at the coaching centre, said that this system of coaching is a first in the area and children are getting a strong ‘after-school learning environment’.
Hindalco, the metals flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, is planning to open a total of 6 coaching centres across the region. Hindalco Chakla Coal Mines division through its CSR initiative is trying to uplift the primary education of villages coming under the project area.
