Ranchi, Oct.21; Three sustained injuries after a group of extremists opened fire on a newly constructed third-line railway site at Malhan in Chandwa, about 100km from Jharkhand’s capital in Latehar district.

It was around 3 pm when the incident took place near Bridge No. 173 of the said site when around 30 Naxalites, suspected to have a connection with CPI (Maoist), opened indiscriminate firing. Out of three injured, one is a site engineer while two are labourers.

The superintendent of police of the district Anjani Anjan and state police spokesperson AV Homkar could not be contacted for their comments. A locality resident said security personnel have been deputed in big numbers in the locality.

“Injured persons were admitted to the local hospital for treatment. The work was being carried out by Rail Development Corporation. Security personnel in big numbers were deputed after the incident. Extremists escaped taking advantage of the forest,” the locality resident said.
