Jamshedpur, May 19: A man identified as Charo Purti was shot dead by a squad of Naxals in a remote village under the Goelkera thana area in West Singhbhum on Thursday evening.
The incident has taken place at Pata village which is considered to be a naxal-infested village.
As Pata village is located in a remote area, the police could know about the killing on Friday morning only and are trying to recover the body.
According to a press release issued by the police, the gunshot victim was associated with the outlawed naxal outfit, CPI-Maoist and used to collect levies for the organisation.
The police sources said Charo Purti was once arrested for his involvement in levy collection and was sent to jail.
Purti resumed the work of levy collection after he was released from jail recently.
According to the police, the killing of Purti was suspected to be due to a discrepancy in the transaction of the levy amount.
