Lightning kills 2 children in Palamu’s Panki block

Daltonganj, June 13: Two children from Palamu’s Panki block died on Monday after they were struck with lightning during the afternoon. BDO Panki Nirbhay Kumar said that the deceased have been identified as Arvind Kumar (12) and Chandni Kumari (9).

He added that the two children belonged from different families.

The incident took place at Azad Basti tola of Gongo village under the Panki block. Sources said the two were playing in the field when lightning and rains occurred.

BDO added that it is a strange incident because Panki is hot and sunny but the suddent thunder and lightning has proved to be a fatal one. He said that the bodies have been taken to the community health centre at Panki from where it will be sent to MMCH Daltonganj for post mortem.

The state government grants Rs. 4 lakh as ex gratia relief in death caused by lightning irrespective of the age and gender of the victim.
