Patna, June 29: Lightning strikes and thunderstorms in Bihar claimed the lives of sixteen persons in the last 24 hours.
According to the report, there were four fatalities in the East Champaran district, three in Bhojpur and Saran, two in West Champaran and Araraia, and one each in Banka and Muzaffarpur.
Nitish Kumar, the chief minister, expressed sorrow over the killings and provided an ex-gratia of Rs. 4 lakh for each victim’s family. He also urged people to heed the instructions given by the Disaster Management Department and take care during bad weather in the statement. Earlier on June 20, 17 people died in lightning strikes across the state.
Meanwhile, in light of the extremely tumultuous weather that is predicted to continue over the coming days, weathermen have advised citizens to remain vigilant. The Patna Meteorological Center has issued a yellow notice for Thursday’s predicted thunderstorms with lightning in the state’s south-central and south-east regions as well as isolated areas of heavy rainfall in north Bihar.
