Ranchi, June 27: Rohan Kumar, who was named as an accused in Pandra double murder case, has been found innocent.

S.P (city) Anshuman Kumar, at a press conference produced the real culprit, Arpit Arnab (19), and explained how Rohan was found innocent. When Arnab was produced before the media his face was covered with black cloth.

“Rohan, who was named as accused in the FIR registered by the maternal uncle of the deceased, is innocent. Our team presenting an example of smart policing arrested the real culprit Arpit Arnab with the help of technical support. He has been arrested from Maa Anand Mai Colony under Ratu police station area,” Kumar said sharing the name of team members who played their role in the investigation.

S.P.(city) Kumar said during the investigation it also became clear that contrary to the claim of complaint of being three persons involved in the murder, there is only person, Arnab, who committed the double murder. “Arnab has also confessed his crime and explained the circumstances under which he committed the murder,” S.P (city) Kumar said.

Explaining the reason behind the murder, S.P (city) Kumar, said it was outcome of love affairs against the will of parents. He shared a press release explaining the circumstances under which the murder was committed.

Arpit and the deceased girl Shweta were in love. Both used to meet on the rooftop during the night. When mother Chanda Singh came to know about the affairs, she raised an objection. But the girl did not pay heed to her mother’s objection and used to meet Arnab secretly, the release reads.

“ In the intervening night of June 17 and 18, Arpit went to meet the girl on her invitation and reached the rooftop scaling boundary wall. Between 3.30am to 4am both came down stairs. In the meantime, the girl’s mother got up. As she took Scooty from the room and returned she noticed Arpit in a compromising position with her daughter. She started beating the youth. The youth attacked the neck of the girl’s mother three to four times with a knife kept for cutting vegetables. When the knife got broken he used a hammer to attack her head four times. As her son Praveen heard the mother raising an alarm, he rushed to her rescue. On which Arpit hit his head three to four times. Pravin fell down. When Shweta raised an objection, he also hit her head with a hammer three to four times. Shweta also fell down. After that, Arpit escaped leaping off the rooftop,” the release reads.

Asked why it took such a long time to nab the real culprit, the S.P(city) said: “The accused was smart. He had switched off his mobile phone and went Bilaspur, from where he went Vishakhapattnam, Bhagalpur and Patna before he reached Ranchi”

Asked police how come the deceased’s mother Chanda Singh named Rohan saying he was accompanied by three, S.P(city) said: “She was not in her proper sense after the incident,” he said.

Asked what further action the police will take when the real culprit has been caught, S.P(city) Kumar said: “Now the statement of the injured mother will be taken again once he regains proper sense and comes in a position to give a proper statement,” he said.

An FIR in connection with the double murder was registered on June 18 at the Pandra OP. The deceased’s mother after the incident told the police that when she was cleaning the house at 3 a.m. before going to the temple, Rohan barged in with two buddies. He murdered Pravin first by tying his wrists and legs, then Sweta in front of her. After an attack on her, they were finally able to flee.
