Ramgarh, May 8: Body of a young girl was found floating in Matwari Pakahi pond in Hazaribagh on Sunday morning after which locals informed the Korra police station. Upon receiving information of the incident, police reached the spot and confiscated the body. The body was then sent to Sheikh Bihari Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.
The mother of the deceased has accused two youths of her locality of raping and killing the girl. Case number 96/22 has been registered in this regard at Korra police station. Acting upon suspicion, police have arrested the main accused Vimal Kumar and associate Lal Pratap Anokha alias Raja, who carried out the act, and sent them to judicial custody. The post-mortem report has also confirmed that the girl was raped.
Main accused Vimal said that he had an affair with the deceased. As per information, the deceased used to work as a midwife in the house where Vimal worked as a driver. Both of them met at Gandhi Maidan late in the evening while Vimal was drunk. He was insisting on walking with the girl.
Vimal further said there was an argument between the two regarding him being drunk. Meanwhile, Vimal’s friend Lal Pratap Anokhi alias Raja tried to forcibly take the girl towards Pakahi pond with a knife but the girl resisted.
Vimal said that both the youths then lured her and took her towards Pakahi pond via Devangana Chowk when the younger sister of the deceased saw them. She asked the deceased to not go with the two boys to no avail.
Vimal added that he raped her on the bund in the eastern part of Pakahi Talab after which Raja started forcing her. The girl then had an argument with Vimal which erupted into scuffle. During this, the girl fell into the water from the ridge of the pond and got stuck in the swamp.
As per the main accused Vimal, he tried to get her out but ended up getting trapped as well. He added that he saved hi,self somehow but could not save the girl after which both the youths fled.
Police said, “After seeing the younger sister going towards the pond, the family members did not consider it appropriate to inform the police. Had the police been informed about this incident immediately, this tragic incident would not have happened. The family members waited the whole evening and night before the matter came to light.”
