New Delhi, Aug 1: The Lok Sabha on Monday approved a vote to lift the suspension of four Congress members, but that motion was later overturned. Pralhad Joshi, the minister of parliamentary affairs, made a motion in this regard that was supported by the House. After the impasse was broken, Congressman Manish Tewari started a conversation about pricing increases.

Manickam Tagore, Ramya Haridas, TN Prathapan, and S Jothimani, four Congressmen, were suspended last Monday for the remainder of the session for participating in protests and carrying signs into the House.

Prior to this, Speaker Om Birla warned all parties that he would aggressively enforce the rules if they brought placards into the House.

Before this, Speaker Om Birla warned both parties to refrain from bringing placards inside the House or he would rigorously enforce After the House met for the day amidst protests from the Opposition regarding the suspension of the MPs, it was first deferred until 12 o’clock. When the House reconvened at 12, opposition lawmakers began shouting, which resulted in another delay until 2:00 p.m.

Since the Monsoon Session began on July 18, the Opposition’s protests and requests for a discussion on price increases and a hike in the GST rate on some food products have been the main causes of disruptions in Lok Sabha proceedings.
