New Delhi: Nek Mohammad Rizwi, a BJP supporter from Madhya Pradesh, has denied allegations that he used abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a rally in Bihar. Rizwi said he has never even visited Bihar and accused opponents of running a disinformation campaign to malign his image and the BJP.
Denial of Allegations and Police Complaint
Rizwi clarified that he has no connection with Bihar, stating, “I have never visited Bihar. I have not abused anyone. Modi ji is our leader.” He added that his photos were being misused on social media to spread falsehoods. To counter the misinformation, Rizwi lodged a police complaint demanding the removal of his images online. He argued that the Congress cannot accept the growing support of Muslims for the BJP, which, he said, was driving such smear attempts.
Row Over Bihar Rally Video
The controversy erupted after a 33-second unverified video from Darbhanga district went viral, showing a local leader allegedly hurling expletives at PM Modi and his late mother Heeraben during Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’. Neither Rahul Gandhi nor RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav was on stage at the time. Some social media posts falsely identified Rizwi as the man in the video, citing his pictures with BJP leaders.
Political Reactions and Escalation
The BJP accused Congress of orchestrating the abuse, calling it “extremely shameful.” A BJP worker also filed a case against Rahul Gandhi following the incident. Meanwhile, Congress distanced itself, dismissing the controversy as irrelevant. Bihar Police said a suspect had been arrested but did not disclose the name. Rizwi, however, insisted he was not involved and showed evidence, including his call records, to prove his innocence.
National Leaders Weigh In
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, addressing a rally in Assam, accused the Congress of habitually insulting the Prime Minister, calling the incident a “stain” on the nation. He later wrote online that under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, Congress politics had “reached its lowest level.”
