Prayagraj: As Mahakumbh 2025 continues in full swing, around 10 crore devotees are expected to take the sacred ‘Amrit Snan’ at the Triveni Sangam in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya on Wednesday.

The Indian Railways has made comprehensive arrangements to ensure seamless travel for the pilgrims. According to Railway Board Chairman and CEO Satish Kumar, “60 additional special trains will be deployed tomorrow, making a total of 190 special trains alongside 110 regular trains. A train will be available every four minutes from Prayagraj.”

A war room has been activated, and 8,000-10,000 RPF personnel are deployed to manage passenger safety and smooth operations.

Security Measures Intensified By UP Government

The Uttar Pradesh government has ramped up security in the Mela area, deploying personnel at key locations and using AI-powered CCTV cameras and drones for surveillance. The Mela area has been declared a no-vehicle zone, with authorities urging residents to use two-wheelers or walk to facilitate pilgrim movement.

On Makar Sankranti alone, 3.5 crore devotees participated in the Amrit Snan, and by Tuesday morning, over 45 lakh devotees had taken a holy dip at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers.

Ritual Significance Of Mauni Amavasya

• Auspicious Occasion: Mauni Amavasya falls on Magh Krishna Amavasya in the Hindu calendar, considered the most sacred day for the Amrit Snan.

• Spiritual Belief: It is believed that on this day, the river waters turn into ‘Amrit,’ making it an ideal time for purification and spiritual merit.

• Tradition: The bath is performed in silence, hence the name “Mauni Amavasya” (Silent New Moon).

Celebrations And Rituals

The Uttar Pradesh government has planned a flower petal shower from helicopters at 6:45 AM on Wednesday to mark the auspicious occasion. A grand procession of saints and ascetics from various akharas will be the main highlight of the event.

The dates for the Amrit Snan are astrologically determined, enhancing the spiritual significance of the ritual, which attracts millions from across the globe to the Triveni Sangam.
