Mahant Narendra Giri, president of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad (ABAP), considered the largest grouping of sadhus in the country, and secretary of Niranjani Akhara was found dead at Baghambari math in Prayagraj on Monday under suspicious circumstances.
He will be cremated today. So before this, his body will be kept in the Baghambri Gaddi Math for the last glimpse, where Panch Parmeshwar will also come. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is also going to leave for Prayagraj. He may attend the last journey of Mahant Narendra Giri. Apart from this, Deputy CM Keshav Maurya, SP President Akhilesh Yadav will also attend the funeral.
On the other hand, preparations have been completed for the post-mortem of Narendra Giri at Sarojini Naidu Hospital. The area around the Baghambri Gaddi Math has been barricaded. At the same time, a large number of police forces have also been deployed around the monastery. As Police said they found a seven-page ‘suicide note’ in which the mahant has held his disciple and yoga guru, Anand Giri, besides two others, responsible for his death. UP DGP Mukul Goel said the note would be sent for forensic examination.
For the past few months, the mahant had been involved in a public fight with Anand Giri, with both sides accusing each other. Giri is said to have got him expelled from the Niranjani akhara with the allegations that he went against the traditions of the akhara by keeping in touch with his family. While Anand Giri also accused his guru of financial irregularities, He is said to have later apologized. Interestingly, in a statement given to the media on Mahant’s death, Anand Giri denied any misunderstanding between him and Giri and called the mahant’s death a conspiracy.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and former CM Akhilesh Yadav and other politicians had expressed their condolences at Mahant’s death.
“The death of Akhara Parishad president Shri Narendra Giri ji is extremely sad. Being devoted to spiritual traditions, he played a major role in connecting many streams of Sant Samaj together. May the Lord give him a place at your feet. Om shanti,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted.
