Nashik, Oct 8: A bus accident in Nashik, Maharashtra left at least 11 persons including one child dead and 21 injured.

The Chief Minister’s office confirmed that the injured are receiving treatment at a city hospital. According to the CMO, the government will cover the injured people’s medical expenses.

“CM has announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakhs each to the next of kin of those who died in this unfortunate incident. I am also going to the spot to assess the situation,” said Nashik guardian minister Dada Bhuse as per news agency ANI.

The accident involving a luxury passenger bus was reported to have occurred on the Nasik-Aurangabad Highway in the early hours of Saturday. A truck leaving Nashik for Pune collided head-on with a bus travelling from Yavatmal to Mumbai, causing the bus to catch fire. While some passengers were critically injured, others were trapped inside the burning vehicle.

The injured passengers were pulled from the wreckage and taken to a hospital, many of whom had burns.

The causes of the tragedy in Nashik will be looked at, according to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

PM Narendra Modi also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakhs from PMNRF to the next of kin of each of the deceased. The injured would be given Rs 50,000.
